I am a huge Harry Potter fan, so I’m stoked for this week! We debuted it last year, and it was such a hit we decided to continue it!
As soon as we get our camp priorities taken care of (swim test, dinner, camp picture), we’re moving straight into the sorting. I kept the sorting list from last year, so returning campers will be asked to go sit with their House, and if they can’t remember it, a staff member will have the list. The campers who are new or who didn’t attend Harry Potter week last year will then be sorted. We sit them in front of the whole camp with a sorting hat on their head, and a counselor stands hidden with a wireless microphone and does the sorting from the list I make. It’s a really cool experience!
For the next few days, we’ll show some Harry Potter parody videos that are HILARIOUS. You can find tons on YouTube.
On Thursday, it’s theme day! Our campers will go with their houses to the different courses in the morning: Quidditch class, Potions class, Hogsmeade visit, and Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Those are all outlined in the packet I’m posting. They’re all different from last year so the kids don’t get bored!
SIDE NOTE: You may be thinking: why aren’t they making their wands in the morning? We’re not because we did this last year. If it’s your first year to do it, I’d make them in the morning.
After classes, they’ll be able to go to the Prefect’s Bath (pool).
After lunch, rest period, and cabin time, we’ll have a camp pride competition. Each house should present a physical representation of their house, two skits, a house cheer, and the Hogwarts school song. Each camper must participate in at least one activity.
Next up we’ll be transported to Diagon Alley. We’ll have different stations set up around camp as shops. We’re planning to have Ollivander’s, Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor, Gringott’s, Madam Primpernelle’s Beautifying Potions, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Terrortours, Scribbulus Everchanging Inks, and Eeylops Owl Emporium. The instructions for each are detailed in the packet!
After dinner we’ll have common room time, and finally we’ll move into our Mission Impossible. I can’t say enough how much I love Mission Impossible.
This one starts with Harry’s scar hurting. Dumbledore’s angel appears and explains horcruxes, telling Harry he must find them. Harry finds and passes out maps. Campers will travel around camp finding horcruxes and gathering information. After they’ve visited all the stations, we’ll gather in the dining hall. Death Eaters will do some creepy stuff, and Voldemort *gasp* will appear with a “dead” Harry. Neville will talk, Harry will come alive, and the battle with Voldemort will begin. Voldemort will die, and the Death Eaters will be chased into the lake.
Then we’ll watch one of the movies and have some HP snacks!
